Rules for driving

This guy knows what he's talking about. I agree with him on all points, except maybe #4. I agree in theory: Driving faster doesn't save you much time. But in practice, sometimes I just want to pass the person in front of me who's going 30 mph so that I can go a comfortable 32 mph. All part of the crazy little game I play. #technology

Robot camel jockeys
|
Jan 12, 2006
|

In America, we race horses. In Qatar (literally pronounced "kuh TAR", told to me by my Qatari friend in college), they race camels. And instead of making people mad and earning more international criticism by using children as jockeys, they started using robots. No need for a racist comment. Robots are seriously a great idea. Bravo, Qataris. #sports

Gift shops
|
Jan 12, 2006
|
Gift shops amuse me. Whenever I see a sign for a gift shop, I try to filter it out and read what it really says: "Unbelievably Worthless Crap Store". A lot of cool places have gift shops, like the Statue of Liberty or the Empire State Building. I'm ok with them. But when I see gift shops in places like Andover, NJ or Flanders, NJ, I get a little irritated. Places like Andover and Flanders aren't national monuments or state parks. They aren't interesting sites or important landmarks. They're just towns. So what do the gift shops have in them? Teddy bears and candles. Wooden statues and wicker baskets. And who goes to these places? People that need to buy something for someone. And why do they go to a gift shop instead of a store that sells viable products? Because it's all part of the system: they have to buy the person a gift and they can't buy nothing, so they buy something, anything.
Fight the man; buy a gift card. #business

Tea helps bad breath

WebMD said that drinking tea inhibits the growth of bacteria and reduces the production of compounds that cause bad breath. It also contains flavonoids (they spelled it "flavonids"), which are a group of polyphenols that can "can fight viruses as well as cancer, including pancreas, colon, bladder, prostate, and breast cancer." Sign me up. #food

Writely
|
Jan 12, 2006
|
I might have found a way to get around being blocked at work (don't tell the network admins). It's this thing called Writely, which is basically just an online document editor. It's actually a pretty cool little tool that has been around for a little while now. I thought about trying it in the past, but I really had no use for it. But then I somehow just found out that it has an option to post to a blog. And bingo, that's what I'm trying with this post. We'll see if it works. My only problem so far is that I don't get to decide what category it goes in. But that's something I can get over. I've also read that is changes the time of posting, or that it's not completely accurate. Oh well. Better than nothing. Time of post: 1:23 pm on January 12.
My other problem is that the rich text editor makes sub-par HTML, so I had to edit it by hand. That sort of defeats the purpose of using a rich text editor. #technology
