Gift shops amuse me. Whenever I see a sign for a gift shop, I try to filter it out and read what it really says: "Unbelievably Worthless Crap Store". A lot of cool places have gift shops, like the Statue of Liberty or the Empire State Building. I'm ok with them. But when I see gift shops in places like Andover, NJ or Flanders, NJ, I get a little irritated. Places like Andover and Flanders aren't national monuments or state parks. They aren't interesting sites or important landmarks. They're just towns. So what do the gift shops have in them? Teddy bears and candles. Wooden statues and wicker baskets. And who goes to these places? People that need to buy something for someone. And why do they go to a gift shop instead of a store that sells viable products? Because it's all part of the system: they have to buy the person a gift and they can't buy nothing, so they buy something, anything.
Fight the man; buy a gift card.
