Perfect coffee (1)

Recently, I've been in search of the perfect homemade coffee. I like Dunkin Donuts coffee enough to murder for it, but sometimes I'd rather make it myself. A show on the History Channel said that regular drip coffee makers don't retain all the oils and flavors from the beans, so I invested in an apparently superior French press. I read a few things online that said 3 things: - Coffee goes bad over time. Use beans within a few weeks of buying them.
- Beans are better than grounds because they're fresher. Buy beans and grind them yourself.
- Coffee is only as good as the water used to make it. Use filtered water.
Many of the things I read also said to use 2 tablespoons of coffee grounds/beans per 6 ounces of water. This is what I tried this morning after yesterday's adventure of old coffee with hard water. And just like yesterday, it was horrendous. The coffee came out like syrup, and it tasted even worse than Starbucks. I couldn't put enough stuff in it to make it drinkable, and that's no way to drink coffee. I obviously need to use fewer beans, so I'm hoping I'll finally have some drinkable coffee tomorrow morning. #food

It's been a few months since I started my quest, and I've been enjoying the perfect recipe for a little while now. This might be subjective, so it might taste gross to different people. But for me, it's great coffee.
1. The brand or blend of beans isn't all that important. I tried a few different ones from the supermarket, and I haven't had a blend I didn't like. The cool thing about supermarket coffee is that you can get it in quantities that are less than 1lb, so you can try a bunch of different ones for cheap. 2. I use a little less than 1 tablespoon of beans per 16 ounces of water. I don't know what kind of human being can drink coffee with 2 tablespoons of beans per 6 ounces of water. It's like motor oil. 3. I'm not convinced the cleanliness or purity of the water makes much of a difference. 4. I'm not sure if buying beans is better than buying grounds. I would imagine it's about the same. 5. I use Coffee-mate Original creamer. It's not flavored, and it doesn't spoil as quickly as milk.
