Unblocked (1)
I can't believe this.  I'm not sure what changed or what I did to get around it, but I'm apparently no longer blocked from accessing my site while at work.  This is amazing news.  It's odd that it came on the exact same day that I started my new job (same place, different division), but oh well.  My website is more important than work.  Wait, is that wrong? #technology

Tattoos
Tattoos are interesting.  I thought about getting one, but I decided I can't.  Judging from the things I've been interested in in the past, I'd probably get a pretty stupid tattoo and regret it shortly after walking out of the tattoo parlor.  Something small and universal sounds like a good idea.  Maybe a cross (completely not universal) or a Chinese symbol or a Bugs Bunny.  Kidding.  I've seen people with tattoos of Looney Tunes characters and all I can think is, "Why on earth would anyone decide to permanently mark themselves with a cartoon character?"  And then you ask them why they got it and they say, "I like Yosemite Sam."  That's ridiculous.  I like pizza, but I don't have a pizza tattoo.  I know a person who has a huge tattoo of some anime character from Dragon Ball Z on his/her forearm (if you know this person, don't blurt it out).  I think it would be safe to assume that in 20 years (heck even 5 years), this person will no longer be interested in anime.  Just a guess.

The other major reason I won't get a tattoo is because I'd have to show people.  If I got it on my white chicken leg or on my skinny little geek arm, I'd have to deal with people lying to my face:  "Oh ... that's ... cool."  Good GOD man you need to get out in the sun.  And have you heard of waxing?

The other thing that confuses me is when people get tattoos on their face or some other exposed body part.  Mike Tyson is a good example.  You don't want to become like Mike Tyson, do ya?  I've seen people with tattoos of flames or other violent-looking things coming up from under their shirt onto their neck.  How could that possibly be a good idea?  When would that ever be beneficial?  How do you expect to get a job when you look like a freak (I sound like a mom:  "Tattoos make people look like freaks!"). #psychology

Christian music (4)
As a Christian, I'm sort of expected to listen to Christian music.  And this is for a good reason:  Christian music doesn't talk about butts or sex or violence.  It talks about God and Jesus and other related good things.  The messages in the music are almost always very positive and encouraging and sometimes even teach you something.

The problem is the music part of Christian music.  When I wrote about my taste in music, I didn't mention anything about nice voices or a song's message (though I do like the rockstar voice).  That's because I don't care what a song says.  The first thing I listen to when I hear a song is the music.  After that, I hear and sometimes inadvertently memorize the words.  So my problem with Christian music is that the music is usually lacking something.  That something is called substance.  You can strap on a guitar and sing a pretty little song about Jesus, and you're suddenly in the Top Five at 5 on Star 99.1 (Christian radio station).  What I want to hear is something that impresses me; something that catches my attention and makes me want to listen for more.

Third Day is a Christian band that almost does this for me.  I say almost because they're kind of like the band Jet:  They play a few cool songs to pique my interest, then they totally let me down with a bunch of sissy songs.  I'm not saying that all slow songs are bad.  I'm saying that there are slow songs, and then there are sissy songs.  There's no better way to ruin my groove than to play a sissy song.

So in the end, I'm still searching for some Christian music that can attract and keep my attention.  There's a band called Casting Crowns that seems so have some cool songs, but I'm skeptical; I've obviously been let down in the past. #religion

I finally took my own advice and created a Zenphoto theme that matches my WordPress theme. #technology

Moon smell
This article on NASA's website says that several astronauts have claimed and confirmed something interesting:  Moondust smells and tastes like gun powder.  They noticed it when it was brought into their lunar lander on the boots of their spacesuits.  But moondust and gun powder aren't the same thing.  Gunpowder is made up of nitrocellulose and nitroglycerin.  Moondust is silicon dioxide glass, olivine, and pyroxene, among other things.  Scientists are unsure why it smells the same as gun powder.  (via Boing Boing) #technology

Wind-powered animals
This site is kind of hard to explain.  It contains pictures and videos of a bunch of wind-powered animals that a guy named Theo Jansen created.  They're not real animals; they're pieces of plastic tubing linked together to form moving parts and joints.  And when they're placed in a windy area like the beach, they move on their own.  One of the creatures is called the Animaris Rhinoceros Transport, which is a giant 15-foot-tall, 2-ton creature that moves when pulled by a person or other moving object.  Really weird but amazing stuff.  (via Neatorama) #nature

Weird crochet
Crocheting sounds like something old people do.  But Wendy does it too, so apparently it's "hip".  Anyway, this website has a bunch of pictures of weird crocheted masterpieces.  Most of them contain blood (not real blood; red yarn).  The unicorn one is pretty funny.  I never did trust unicorns.  (via Boing Boing) #technology

Bellagio fountains
This article from the IEEE geek magazine talks about a guy who designs the fountains for the Bellagio in Las Vegas.  His initial task was to double the height of the spray to 160 feet, which causes problems with the FAA because they say it shows up on their radar.  How awesome is that?  (via Boing Boing).  Here's my picture from January, 2005.
