Library cats (1)

Hundreds of libraries around the country (and hundreds more around the world) "employ" cats for one reason or another. It's been suggested that monks used them to prevent rats from eating their books. Modern libraries use them to annoy entertain guests, and also to attract new people (though if you don't like cats, that's another reason not to step foot in a library). Squeaker, the library cat from Wesleyan College, was employed for around 23 years. There was a book written about Dewey from Spencer Public Library in Iowa, and there was even talk of it being made into a movie (though it sounds like possibly the worst movie idea in the history of the universe). Until about 7 minutes ago, I had never heard of this topic. Thanks, Neatorama. #nature
