Am I fearless? Or just plain stupid? This picture was taken with no zoom, meaning I was about an inch from this hungry little bee.

where was this taken? what is the little bee standing on?
This was taken at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, VA. The bee was licking stuff off a table.
Actually, most honeybees (which this one looks like) are generally harmless unless provoked. They even allow themselves to be pet. It's wasps (which a lot of people confuse with bees) that are the tempermental ones.
Would sticking a camera in a bee's face be considered provoking it? I'd say so. Plus, most people are scared of things that sting, so their first instinct is to swat at buzzing insects that fly around their heads. Swatting is probably also considered provoking, hence why bees have a bad rap. It's a shame. I'd like to pet one.
